HYUNDAI HOPMAN CUP XV TRANSCRIPT
James, you guys ran it pretty close. (James) Well, I mean we saw Australia's match be so dramatic. We couldn't be totally outdone and make it too easy or anything. We had to make sure the crowd had some fun. It was a good time. We played well, and they're a great team. Serena, you seemed to be having quite a bit of fun out there. Are you enjoying it? (Serena) The day I stop enjoying it will be the day I give up tennis, so I'm definitely enjoying it. I'm having a great time. How did you lift James after his singles loss? (Serena) I told him he better
win or else. Are you looking forward to taking on Australia in the final? (Serena) I definitely am, because it's definitely something I've been looking forward to all week. James, you pushed Hewitt to five sets in the US Open twice. Obviously you can push some buttons. (James) Yeah, unfortunately I haven't quite gotten a win out of either of those. First time, unfortunately I got sick on the court. Second time, he just got one break on a couple of great shots. He's good at doing that. That's why he's number one in the world. But, I feel like I have a pretty good game to match up with his and I think I've got as good a chance as a lot of guys on tour to beat him. He's number one in the world, but he's still human. He's definitely beatable and Jiri proved that yesterday. Hopefully I can prove it tomorrow. We'll see. How's your racquet holding up? It's had a bit of a bashing. (James) Yeah a little bit. At the beginning of the year I seem to not be quite into the flow of matches and I tend to loose control of a racquet once or twice in Australia. But, by the end of the Australia trip I've usually calmed down a little and I try to keep it in my hands a little more. James, it didn't go as well as you would have liked in the singles, but how are you feeling about your form in general? (James) Good. She (Serena
Williams) reminded me today when I got down, I'm very competitive so
I want to win every match I go out and play, but she reminded me, you
know. This is mainly to get ready for the Australian Open - we want
to win - but I can't get too down on myself. I played probably four
really good sets this week and a couple that haven't been up to what
I think is my best form. But, Xavier played well and he's top-thirty
in the world and he's a great player. I think my form is coming along
fine. I'm not that worried about it. I didn't play great on the big
points today. You had a bit of a collision out there, are you both okay after that? (Serena) Well I have a broken
hip. Serena, you're doing a bit of a kangaroo hop out there. (Serena) Yeah, I always do that. Especially when I play with Venus, because she always has these big overhead lobs, and it just carries on to whoever I play with. So it's like, 'oh make it'. Is she wishing she was out there? (Serena) Um, actually I just talked to her after my match. She's at home, working hard. She was at the movies. I'm a bit jealous. Just a question about the match tomorrow - The USA has lost four finals in the past and won one, is it important to you from your country's point of view to win? (James) Yeah, sure. I guess that's a bad resume to have, but at least we've been there before and we're hopefully going to change that a little bit tomorrow. We can't really worry about that. Neither of us were on any of those teams. We can't worry too much about that, we'll just go out there and try do our best. We've got a whole new team and hopefully we can take the Hopman Cup back to America. James, do you and Serena have any little signals out there that you use? (Serena) Yeah, but we're
not going to disclose them.
